Bruno Bitter (Blackbird.IO) took home the 2023 Innovator of the Year – Europe Award at LocWorld’s 14th Process Innovation Challenge, which took place on the 8th of June at LocWorld49 in Malmö, Sweden. Did you miss the competition? You can watch the recording here on the PIC playlist on LocWorld’s youtube channel.
The innovation “Leveraging Analytics Data in Localization Automation” explained smart connectivity using analytics, data and technology leveraging from his background in digital marketing. As Bruno said, “While we have to have talent, we also have to technology and data.” He showed various workflows which showed how workflows can adapt based on variables such as volume.
The runner-up this time was Erji Wang (VMware and supported by Wei Zhang of Centific) with the innovation, “AI-Powered Localization Source Content Analysis Tool.” With source content, usually lots of info is missing. They used generative AI to provide that information such as meta data, tone writing style and in context terminology information.
For the first time, we introduced ranked choice voting for the audience and dragons, allowing people to rank for the top 3 innovators. We will now begin announcing a third place for the competitions going forward. For PIC#15, third place was taken by Giada Gerotto (Creative Words) with the innovation “AI-based freelancer testing and recruitment,” which showed a really smart way of dealing with translation tests using AI.
As PIC founder and co-host, Dave Ruane put it; “PIC 14 was our highest standard at the PIC and also showed how innovators are adopting brand new platforms such as generative AI really quickly. This is good news for us as we will see applicable deployments and use cases of these new technologies faster. We had over our biggest live final audience, and got some amazing feedback and engagement with our innovators. We can’t wait PIC to #15.”
The PIC dragons this time were Britta Aagaard (Semantix), Esther Curiel (Zoetis), and Giulia Tarditi (Qualtrics.) Alex Bernet (LocWorld), and Dave Ruane (XTM International) co-produced and co-hosted the competition for the LocWorld organizing team. We would also like to thank Multilingual Magazine, LocWorld, and XTM International for supporting the event.
More than 350 people attended the final round of PIC#14, making this the biggest PIC audience ever.
