Rikkert Engels (Xillio LocHub) became the 2021 “Localization process innovator of the year for Europe” at the 10th PIC event which took place on the 9th of June 2021 at LocWorldWide44.
His innovation “How Localization professionals can help Marketers improve global UX and SEO”, explained how to test for global website UX and spot an array of issues through one interface.
As Rikkert said during his pitch , “Our mission is to bring the marketing and localization worlds to sit around the table together”. The system tests for a variety of multilingual and UX issues, removing those errors increases conversion and provides for a much better local experience.
One of our process dragons, Yuka Nakasone added that “Lots of ROI talk is going on in the localization industry in an attempt to come up with a clear cut argument to show the power of localization in numbers. The way localization can show the power is actually really creating powerful local marketing assets proving the traffic, CTR and conversion in the same way as the marketing department does. Usually, localization is cut off after CMS. We cannot say why the “content” or “webpage” is not working because we don’t have access to other processes the marketing people follow with the content we deliver to the CMS. This type of innovation can empower the localization team to contribute in the way we should be contributing.”
The runner up this time was Konstantin Savenkov from Intento. He explained that placeholder tags in strings are impossible for NMT to interpret well, and how moving tags out of the equation is a smart solution to this problem as well as issues with terminology and NMT.
This year’s PIC final round had 5 innovators battle on the virtual stage in front of a panel of dragons and the LocWorldWide audience. As PIC chair and co-moderator Dave Ruane put it; “We have been waiting for someone to win the PIC twice. This has now happened with Rikkert’s win – it was a great job from him, showing a very applicabale and measurable innovation nowadays. Once again we saw the innovators really grow through the preliminary rounds to the final – congratulations to all of them. Thanks to our dragons for guiding the innovators, the LocWorld team and Alex Bernet for steering the PIC ship straight ahead.”
The PIC dragons this time were ; Yuka Nakasone (Global Bridge), Jim Compton (RWS Moravia), and Jochen Hummel (Coreon & ESTeam). We would also like to thank Multilingual Magazine, LocWorld, and XTM International and for supporting the event.
Another PIC event is done, congratulations to all finalists and a big thank you to all those who sent in proposals.
The next PIC event will be in October 2021; the call for papers will be opened by August, 2021.
